In-Kind Donations

Headed to the store or like online shopping? Enjoy coordinating friends or colleagues for a good cause? From office supplies to cleaning products and back-to-school items, organizing an in-kind donation drive is a tangible and needed way to support families at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Lists of individual items are further below. If you’d like to put together a move-in kit, either for a family moving into shelter or for a family moving out of shelter into their own place, suggested items include:

The following items are provided to each family moving into the Shelter Program. Items are re-used from family to family whenever possible.

  • Towels (1 set/person)

  • Bedding & pillows: Twin sheet sets and comforter

  • Plates, bowls, cups, silverware (heavy duty reusable plastic)

  • Shower curtain & rings

  • Pot, skillet, & pan for baking

  • Stirring spoon & spatula

  • Kitchen knife, scissors

  • Toaster

  • Coffee maker

  • Microwave

  • Toy & book for each child

Move-in kit for apartment after shelter

Many of the families moving out of shelter qualify for and receive additional items from Home Start Hope.

  • General cleaning items: broom and dustpan; self-wringing mop; bucket, disposable gloves, sponges, all-purpose cleaner, anti-bacterial wipes

  • Kitchen trash basket filled with: aluminum foil, plastic wrap, measuring cups & spoons, spatula, whisk, can opener, and oven mitts

  • Bathroom trash basket filled with toilet cleaner and toilet brush, bathroom cleaner, shower curtain & rings

  • Dish soap & scrubber

  • Liquid hand soap (2)

  • Paper towels, toilet paper, & tissues

Bus Tickets: RTS all-day unlimited passes or stored value passes

New or Gently Used Items (General)

The following new or gently used items are used to distribute to our families when they move into their new home from shelter or for families receiving support for shelter diversion. Storage at our Day Center is limited; PLEASE CALL before delivering.

  • Furniture – mattresses and box springs (twin, double/full, or queen), bed frames; also occasionally kitchenette-style tables and chairs, sturdy living room chairs.

  • Small Appliances – lamps, microwaves, toasters, coffee makers, vacuum cleaners, can openers, clocks, DVD players, etc.

  • Baby Items – high chairs, strollers, activity gyms.

NEW Items (General)

  • Bus Tickets - RTS all-day unlimited passes or stored value passes.

  • Toiletries (full size) – Body wash, hand soap, deodorant, lotion, toilet paper, FULL SIZE bath towels (we currently have lots of multi-racial hair care products to give to families!).

  • Cleaning Supplies – dish soap, sponges, buckets, plungers, toilet brushes, kitchen/bathroom disinfectant cleaners and wipes, toilet bowl cleaner, rubber gloves, paper towels, trash bags.

  • Baby/Child Items – baby wipes, pull ups, backpacks.

  • Office Supplies – printer paper, printer ink/toner, tape, pens, stamps, or Staples gift cards.

  • Merchant Gift Cards – Walmart, Tops, Aldi, PriceRite, Sav-A-Lot, gas stations (gift card must have receipt of activation attached).
